M13- video review

An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan Museum of Art
key concepts you learned.
A museum is never finished, began mainly European artworks and eventually added from all over the world, no such thing to get rid of personal taste, have to appreciate each type of art from different perspective, quality over personal taste, as curators they're writing history and changing by what they choose, materials deteriorate have to have scientists preserve it, preserving is a long process and very tricky, moving art works was also difficult and time consuming, "exhibitions can be large or small, broad or tightly focused, they can center on an artist, a culture, a millennium, or a moment in time", how pieces relate to one another and interact mean a lot,

LIVE Q&A with MoMA Curator Anne Umland
key concepts you learned.
art of present is just as important of art of past, has every type of artwork, desire to make things new, all works installed by Picasso, start at his younger work and as you move through the gallery viewer sees how his work evolved over 9 years, usually takes 2-3 years sometimes longer to finish, have to have open mind, willing to go against personal taste, perfectionist, pieces have to relate to context- have to add something important

The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art
key concepts you learned.

art that no one else knows how to catergorize, lowbrow- a person regarded as uncultivated and lacking in taste, used in relation to paintings with naked women, all inclusive, people can relate to the images they see- more personal, consumed by pop culture references, 40s/50s/70s aesthetic, post ww2, you can do what you please, have a lot of different art style incorporated, lots of dark humor or taboo subjects

Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
The first video just kind of talked about how a museum works and how it gets and restores paintings it wasn't until the end we saw how exhibitions were made and it was only one based around his career and works had no relation to one another. The second video helped me have a good and better understanding of what its like to be a curator and set up and exhibition because of the questions answered. The last video showed me that I don't need to make my exhibit on what one would typically think of (example- Renaissance)
What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?

The first video was kind of boring and didn't really add anything to the project, but showed a lot of cool things on how museums functioned. The second video I enjoyed because it helped understand what it was like to be a curator. The third video I found interesting because I have never heard of this art style, but I've seen this type of art I just never knew it had its own name to it. They helped with my curation project because it showed me the thought process behind it, what its like to be apart of this as a real life job, and the thought process behind it.
