Reflection Questions:
1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces? I chose the first piece because I like how the white chalk was used for the highlights. The second piece I chose because I like the use of charcoal, which was the media I chose to use to make my self portrait. The third piece I chose because I liked the detail of that, and wanted my portrait to be more detailed with the use of the white and dark charcoal.
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait? I haven't made a charcoal self portrait since high school and I enjoy using it a lot, and in my drawing class Ive been reintroduced to using charcoal again.
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them? I haven't used charcoal like this in a while so it took time getting used to it, I also didn't have grey sketch paper which is what I usually use wen making charcoal portraits so it was hard to make whites and greys but I made it possible by using an eraser and smudge instead of white charcoal
4. How does this piece represent you? This piece represents me as an artist because I love doing portraits of people and I love detail.
5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work? Value, line
6. Did you enjoy working on this project? Yes
7. What do you think of your final artwork? It didn't come out exactly the way I would have liked but I think it has more personality this way not being perfect
